Did Daphne Bridgerton rape Simon Basset (The Duke)?
if you haven’t watched Bridgerton yet, then you are probably living under a rock.
Bridgerton came down on Christmas Day to bless us, and the series certainly provided us with a wealth of entertainment, from the music and costumes to a Gossip Girl-style mystery to divert us from a bleak year.
was there a rape case?
The show simply glosses over the problem and goes on to the next scene, which I believe is why many viewers didn’t see it right away. But the Bridgerton scene is it, and what are the reactions to the rape?
Daphne and the Duke, Simon, spend a lot of Bridgerton episode six shagging in different locations around their mansion and grounds, but the Duke still pulls out. Daphne realizes she has no idea how babies are born and requests that a maid describe it to her. She then understands what the Duke’s persistent withdrawal means.
This Bridgerton episode concludes with a rape scene. Daphne and Simon are having sex as she flips them over so she is on top and he is unable to pull away. The Duke becomes increasingly concerned, shaking his head and saying, “Wait,” but she continues before he completes his sentence.
It’s unsettling to watch, but you may not have realized it was a rape scene because the show moves on quickly.
